Diagnosis in the Sleep Lap

A polysomnogram is a sleep test that records different activities of the body while the patient is sleeping. This test measures brain waves, eye movements, heart rate, muscle tone and breathing patterns to determine a possible sleeping condition.

One of our sleep technologists attaches small electrodes to the head and skin to monitor physiological changes during sleep. Flexible elastic belts are placed around the chest and abdomen to measure breathing. Heart rate and blood oxygen levels are then monitored by a probe that fits over the finger. These devices cause no discomfort and will not hamper movements during the night. The technical equipment and technologist are in a nearby room monitoring all activities.

Talk to your primary care provider about whether a sleep study may benefit you.
